Pairing Wine and Food

Certain wines have an affinity for certain foods, however, there is no rule that says you must serve a particular wine with a particular food. Everyone tastes differently and serve which ever wine is tasteful to you. Traditional guidelines suggest you might try these wines with these foods:

Wine Cheese Bread Other
Chardonnay Gruyere rye bread aperitif; fish and poultry dishes; fish or veal
Merlot Blue cheese; Gorgonzola  wheat bread, crusty breads  apples, pears; red meats, duck, spaghetti
Ruby Red Blue cheese, Provolone, Emmental, Gruyere, Raclette, Parmesan  crusty breads apples, pears; hearty casseroles, fondues, raclettes
Cameo Rose Ricotta, Cheddar (mild), Colby  whole grain breads, water crackers, melba toast pears, figs, apples, grapes, melons, berries; quiches
Apple Blossom Havarti, Monterey Jack rye bread, sourdough bread apples, grapes, citrus, kiwi fruit
Golden Pear Brie crackers, melba toasts grapes
