Rock and Wine in Western Colorado

from rock art to wine tastings, explore the treasures of the west.

The Grand Valley has become an increasingly popular tourist destination. People are attracted by the natural wonders, hiking and biking trails and, of course, the wines! Plan to make the Grand Junction area your pivot point for these very close or "just-a-day-away" activities:

  • The wineries of Palisade

  • The Spanish Trail (petroglyphs and pictographs)

  • The Colorado National Monument (petroglyphs and pictographs)

  • Colorado River bike/walking trails

  • River rafting on the Colorado or Gunnison Rivers

  • Museum of Western Colorado and Dinosaur Museum

  • The Kokopeli mountain bike trail from Fruita to Moab, Utah

  • Two hundred lakes, fishing, and hiking in the forests and on the mountain tops of the Grand Mesa (a few bears but lots of fish).

  • Fort Uncompagre in Delta—a realistic re-creation of a trading post (try hatchet throwing with the mountain men)

  • The scenic byway from Whitewater to Ridgeway returning to Grand Junction through Montrose and Delta).

  • Our newest national park, The Black Canyon of the Gunnison

  • Natural hot springs in Glenwood Springs and Ouray
